WEBSITE DESIGN ST IVES – URBAN METTA
THE WEBSITE PROJECT
A single page parallax website design and development for a thai yoga massage bodyworker. Urban Metta is based next to the sea in the beautiful St Ives, Cornwall. Inspiration for the colours had to come from the sea and bright skies. It was important to have space for a lot of information but still keep the site clean and simple.
Development: HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, PHP & WordPress
Design: Adobe Illustrator & Sketch
– Single Page Parallax Scrolling Website
– Integration with WordPress Blog

Make Better Use of 404 Error Page – Supporting Charities
Urban Shed are always on the look-out for ways to support and help charities with design and tech. So when it came to the design and to make better use of 404 Error Page, we went on the hunt to see if there were any charities that had this thought too. We found a wonderful charity website notfound.org. They have a little application you can install that will display a picture of a missing child and provides contact details to the Missing People helpline. It’s like the milk carton missing persons campaign for the internet world!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO FEATURE?
We are looking for charities to work with. One way we wish to support local charities is by featuring them on our 404 error pages. If you take a look at our “404 – Not Found Page” at urban shed – you will see that we are currently supporting the Missing Children charity. Every month we would like to add a feature charity to our site. So please get in touch!
Have a grand weekend all…

Responsive Web Design – Making your website awesome on any device!
We believe that every website or application needs to be usable on any device. There are many factors that influence the experience a person has when using a website, but one thing that really helps is being presented with an interface that meets the needs of the device that the user is using. At Urban Shed, we use a concept called ‘Mobile First’ where we build the mobile design first and then design for other devises – from a tablet ending in a desktop design. Putting the mobile first allows us to keep focused on the important critical features of your application or website as well as the user experience for each device. We’ve created a round up of the latest tools available to support responsive web design:
This site is pretty awesome… want to know what your site looks like on a mobile, tablet and desktop all at once? Well this is for you!
How it works
- Add your URL to the input field
- Click GO (reloads the preview) or press Enter (reloads the page)
- Admire your good work
It’s not a substitute for testing your site for responsiveness, but it is a great time saving tool for getting screen shots.
(hint: have a play with the device images – click and drag the devices… yep, how cool is that – now go re-arrange to your heart’s content!)
This is a fun scrolldeck.js overview of Responsive Web Design by John Polacek. So if you want a great insight into responsive design then be sure to check it out.
What the Heck is Responsive Web Design?
We’ve been playing with Macaw for the last month, and boy does it live up to expectation. It has responsive design built in allowing you to set breakpoints and optimise your site for all devices. If we had to some it up in one word… “Beautiful”
MACAW’s biggest feature is ‘Alchemy’ – It’s ability to convert your gorgeous design to clean usable code (HTML and CSS).
They offer a trial so you can try out this awesome cool tool yourself… you know you want to…

We hope you’ve enjoyed this roundup. Thanks for taking the time to read and we will see you soon!
We are so excited to be able to share our inspirations & projects that we are working on, as well as our life at Urban Shed Studio. The majority of our day is spent working on web app design and development in St Ives Cornwall for startups and charities. We also build our own products and test out our own ideas. As tech entrepreneurs, we grow both our own and customer ideas using lean startup practices. There is a board in our studio with an ever expanding list of ideas to try out and build!
One of our biggest inspirations is being based in the oh so beautiful St Ives – every day brings something new to add to the canvas. When we need that extra push for an idea, all that is needed is a walk with a coffee, camera & notepad to hand!
Getting A Little Inspiration
LATEST NEWS FROM URBAN SHED
In addition to the latest news, we will be sharing, from time to time, a roundup of our top finds in the world of web app design and development. Everyday we find something new that inspires and pushes us further with our work… so it seems only fair to share these little snippets.

We are looking at lending our services to any organisation in the South West of Cornwall that are involved in teaching children to code. If you are based further a field then this is something we would look to do remotely. Give us a shout.
